Hands on Atlanta MLK Service Summit

On Monday, January, 19th from 9:00am until 1:00pmEST - Atlanta Services organizations will host the 16th Annual Hands on Atlanta MLK Service Summit and are seeking your support. Service Project Descriptions (all projects occur on Monday, January 19, 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.)
Amario's Art Academy for the Gifted and Talented
Amario's Art Academy provides mentoring and arts training for students from grades 3-12 to prepare them for professional careers in the arts. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit, volunteers will work with students to refurbish their playground, landscape and create a new marquis for the academy.
This project can accommodate up to 30 volunteers ages 16 and older. This project site is located in East Point and is not wheelchair accessible.
The mission of The Atlanta Boy Choir is to achieve the highest possible standard of musical excellence, while instilling in its members a life-long appreciation of music; an abiding love of beauty; a keen sense of respect for themselves and others; and the self-discipline necessary to become effective leaders in their families, their communities, and the world. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit volunteers will clean the facilities.
This project can accommodate up to 20 volunteers ages 18 and older. This project site located near Emory University and is not wheelchair accessible.
The Atlanta Community Food Bank fights hunger by engaging, educating and empowering our community. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit volunteers will inspect, sort and repack donated food items for distribution to area food pantries, after school programs, homeless shelters and other community agencies.
This project can accommodate up to 20 volunteers ages 8 and older with a 1:4 adult to child supervision. This project site is located in NW Atlanta and is wheelchair accessible.
Centennial Olympic Park
Centennial Olympic Park is one of Atlanta's premier public venues for outdoor recreation. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit volunteers will remove the holiday light display.
This project can accommodate up to 125 volunteers ages 16 and older. This project site is located in downtown Atlanta and is wheelchair accessible.
Continental Colony Elementary School
At Continental Colony Elementary, staff, students, parents, and partners share a commitment and an expectation of academic rigor, respect, and innovative approaches to excellence. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit volunteers will repaint indoor murals, weed and plant garden beds, install coat hooks and paint interior areas.
This project can accommodate up to 50 volunteers ages 16 and older. This project site is located in SW Atlanta and is wheelchair accessible.
DeKalb Community Service Board CHOICE Program
The mission of the DeKalb Community Service Board's CHOICE Program is to develop and maintain community based day habilitation services that are intended to serve individuals with developmental disabilities who choose an alternative approach to day services. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit volunteers will paint activity rooms and landscape outdoor areas.
This project can accommodate 30 volunteers ages 16 and older. This project site is located in Lithonia and is wheelchair accessible.
Gateway Performance Productions
Gateway Performance Productions exists to create and produce high-quality outreach arts programming for touring to theatres, festivals, museums, libraries, colleges, universities, schools and other community sites. Gateway also exists to maintain The MASK Center - a unique arts facility and community resource, designed to educate and inform the public concerning the artistic, cultural and historic significance of theatrical masks as well as demonstrate the value of masks as performance tools. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit will clean and paint areas of Gateway's facilities.
This project can accommodate 20 volunteers ages 18 and older. This project site is located in Atlanta's Little 5 Points Community and is wheelchair accessible.
Hosea Feed The Homeless - MLK Dinner At Turner Field
Since 1971 Hosea Feed The Hungry and Homeless has produced its signature holiday dinner event for the homeless and the working poor on Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday serving some 50,000 people at Turner Field. Over 1,500 volunteers are utilized providing the homeless and the working poor with medical services provided from the Metro Atlanta HFTH Medical Clinic, barber and beauty service, home delivery of nutritious hot meal, clothing/toiletry distribution, childrens' services, toys, books, clothes and a free, seven-course hot meal. A free, all you can eat, seven-course hot meal is prepared fresh the night before and loads of entertainment, inspirational speeches and encouragement are enjoyed.
Join us for set-up at Turner Field on Saturday,Jan. 17th; for food preparation on Sunday at the Dekalb Jail; and for the dinner service on Monday, the 19th.
Hamilton E. Holmes Elementary School
Hamilton E. Holmes Elementary School's mission is to empower students to grow into productive, successful citizens who are lifelong learners and who will have a positive impact on their ever-changing global community. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit, volunteers will perform various indoor painting, muraling and outdoor landscaping tasks.
This project can accommodate up to 50 volunteers ages 12 and older with adult supervision. This project site is located in East Point and is wheelchair accessible.
Jean Childs Young Middle School
The mission of Jean Childs Young Middle School is to raise the academic achievement of all students. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit volunteers will clean and organize equipment in a new science lab for the students.
This project can accommodate up to 20 volunteers ages 18 and older. This project site is located in NW Atlanta and is wheelchair accessible.
National Divine Spiritual Church
National Divine Spiritual Church's mission is to create a life-giving, life-changing, missional, mentoring community for people in need of grace. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit, volunteers will work with community members to participate in a community-wide cleanup.
This project can accommodate up to 35 volunteers ages 12 and older with adult supervision. This project site is located in Atlanta's King Historic District and is not wheelchair accessible.
Neighborhood Charter School
The Neighborhood Charter School's mission is to provide a learning environment for all students that demands high educational standards and high levels of parent/guardian involvement and responsibility. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit volunteers will paint various indoor and outdoor areas and continue a playground improvement project.
This project can accommodate up to 100 volunteers ages 16 years and older. This project site is located in Atlanta's Grant Park Neighborhood and is wheelchair accessible.
The NFL-YET (Youth Education Town) Boys & Girls Club helps youth become productive and caring adults by providing a continuum of enriching after school and summer activities. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit volunteers will paint murals and doors and clean the facility.
This project can accommodate 70 volunteers ages 16 and older. This project site is located in Atlanta's Grant Park neighborhood and is wheelchair accessible.
TryCope at Magnolia Park
TryCope at Magnolia Park's mission is to develop and implement programs that are designed to support and expand the emotional, intellectual, educational, social and spiritual potential of youth in urban communities. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit, volunteers will clean and paint interior areas of the center and landscape outdoors.
This project can accommodate 20 volunteers ages 18 and older. This project site is located near Atlanta's West End and is wheelchair accessible.
Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts
The mission of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts is to provide training and support for students who aspire to enhance their creative talents and provide a sustainable environment which encourages freedom of expression, serves as a resource for families, and empowers via education. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit, volunteers will paint indoor areas of the center, plant winter foliage and clean areas of the campus.
This project can accommodate up to 80 volunteers ages 7 and older with adult supervision. This project site is located Stone Mountain and is wheelchair accessible.
West Manor Elementary School provides the foundation for our students to become globally connected and productive citizens of the 21st century. During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Summit volunteers will paint and install new basketball goals and paint and clean other areas of the building.
This project can accommodate 20 volunteers ages 12 and older with adult supervision. This project site is located in SW Atlanta and is wheelchair accessible.
