"Made in Georgia" bill clears Senate committee
State Sen. Tim Golden's (D-Valdosta) legislation, SB 359, which creates a "Made in Georgia" campaign, designed to promote the sale of products manufactured in Georgia was unanimously approved by the Senate Economic Development Committee yesterday and now moves to the Senate Rules Committee for further action.
The legislation is designed to promote the sales of products manufactured in Georgia, and to raise the profile of Georgia's manufacturing impact on plants, people and products.
On Monday, the legislation gained the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). NFIB is the largest small business lobby in Georgia, representing over 12,000 small businesses throughout the state. The endorsement joins the Georgia Traditional Manufacturers Association, Georgia Forestry Association, Georgia Mining Association and many other business organizations supporting passage of this bill.
"We're fortunate to have so many outstanding business organizations in Georgia supporting this legislation," said Senator Golden. "I am very pleased to add NFIB to this group."
Golden, serving his fifth term in the Senate, represents Georgia's 8th District, including Brooks and Lowndes counties and parts of Cook and Thomas counties. He is secretary of the Senate Appropriations Committee and also serves on the Finance, Insurance & Labor, Higher Education, and Government Oversight committees. He also serves as chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus.
